Uncle Tom’s Cabin

Goal of this project: To “wear the skin” of the culture in Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

Assignment: Choose a character, create a costume to wear, and write a monologue from the character’s point of view about why slavery was good and right.

The people in 1860s America believed it was not only good, but right to have slaves. Our students had to research this mindset in order to override their own disgust with slavery. It was a challenge and they rose to the occasion beautifully. What you will see in the following video is their attempt to show the reality of the misguided beliefs that were prevalent at the time.

NOTE: It is important to us that you realize that no one in our group believes slavery is good or right.
